JBS Summer Games :: Scrapbooking the Closing Ceremony

Of course, all those games can't just fizzle out into nothing - we need a big party to bring everything to a close!  So today, something quite literal for the JBS Summer Games: scrapbooking the closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Olympics are all about bringing everyone together, so I took a little inspiration from that and tried to bring all sorts of different JBS products - new and old - together for this page. Turquoise butterfly-embossed Coredinations cardstock, the classic JBS label paper in pink, pink embellished butterflies and the JBS acrylic paint in Chewing Gum meet new products like the black letter stickers, kraft tag, text print patterned paper and the perforated die-cut paper in kraft. After all the pink in London's branding of the summer games, it seems only right to include a fair amount of it on my Olympic-themed scrapbook pages!

Seriously, I will never tire of Jenni butterflies.  If she tires of making them, I am in so much trouble.  I'm hoping she will tell me first, and then I'll pull my best impression of an Olympic athlete as I quickly sprint into the warehouse and grab all the butterflies I can find.  I'll need a lifetime supply!  Anyway... I'm off topic here.

While the JBS Summer Games are winding to a close, there is still a chance to join in the fun and have a chance at winning some fabulous prizes!  Look back over the blog for all sorts of different things you can try, and see if your crafting will find you standing atop the medal podium by the end of the weekend!

JBS Summer Games; Pole Vault

Hello Hello :)

Are you loving the amazing JBS Summer Games Inspiration from the Team? I am!!

Today I want to share with you a layout I did based on the event Pole Vaulting. Initially I was going to do take a segmental approach and do lots of pattern paper piecing, but as you can see I changed my mind LOL :)

What I did was cut the card stock background up into pieces in the same pattern/design of the bar that the pole vaulters vault over! I then adhered it to another sheet of card stock and then machine stitched it down. as you can see in the below picture :).

I finished the layout using a variety of Jenni Bowlin Studio tags, rub-ons, stickers and embellishments. I also added a few extra splats of Fountain ink paint.

Soooooo there is still time to enter the JBS Summer Games Challenge! We'd love to be inspired by YOU and hope you'll join us! Don't keep us waiting to long :)

JBS Summer Games: Two Photo Tennis Court Scrapping

Can you handle a bit more tennis scrapping?  We had a long weekend here in England, so I extended the play a bit! And as a little bonus, I have a video to help show how I went from that nice, orderly tennis court diagram to my final page with a few layers and angles here and there.

For this project, I used supplies from the August JBS Mercantile papercrafting kit, plus a few extra JBS products: label stickers, a gold butterfly rub-on and one of the new flag tags in kraft.

Why yes, that IS my exceedingly excited and cheesy face, backstage just five minutes before the start of the London 2012 Closing Ceremony! It was a serious amount of energy in that room, I tell you.

Play along with us!  Post your layouts inspired by the Summer Games onto the JBS Summer Games thread to be eligible for medal contention and great prizes!  Each entry must be created from a JBS Mercantile Kit(s) or include at least three different JBS products.  Entries close at midnight CST on September 2nd.  Winners will be randomly drawn and announced on September 3rd.

JBS Summer Games: Shooting Skeet

Although the shooting sports aren't covered too widely during the olympics, I'm always in awe of the skeet shooters.  We have spent many afternoons outside shooting clay pigeons with our boys & on this day; our nieces. The truth be told, I can't hit a bird {alive or clay} whether it's flying or standing on the ground. But my boys definitely got their shooting abilities from their dad.

In this layout, I used the Die-Cut and Perforated Papers - Bank Statement paper as my base. I love how it has sections sort of like the clay pigeon box. I used the idea of the clays flying away through the air as inspiration for the JBS Seal cuts that I made in various sizes with my Silhouette.

Show us how you're inspired by the sport of shooting? We'd love to see the results! Post your entries on the JBS Summer Games thread to be eligible for medal contention! Each entry must be created from a JBS Mercantile Kit(s) or include at least three different JBS products. Entries close at midnight CST on September 2nd.  Winners will be randomly drawn and announced on September 3rd.

JBS Summer Games: (simple) Tennis

Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying this weekend's tennis match. Isn't is so much fun?! I'm joining in with a super simple take on the sketch...

Inspired by the center service court section of the diagram I created a grid background. I used JBS perforated marks stamp, which I then stitched and filled with patterned papers and other stickers.

I couldn't resist using this month's Mercantile exclusive frame stamp, which was perfect to highlight my picture.

JBS Summer Games: Tennis

This weekend a few of us have been having a friendly tennis tournament.  We're drawing sketch inspiration from the official pro tennis court dimensions shown below.
Inspiration truly is everywhere!

I'm completely in love with the colors in the September kit & couldn't wait to start playing.

JBS Summer Games: Doubles Tennis

Doris here getting in on the tennis match today.  When I looked to the tennis court sketch for inspiration, I immediately thought, "Two Pager!"  I don't often do two page layouts, so this one took a while for me, but I'm delighted with the way it turned out.

I followed the sketch quite closely.  You can see that my photos mimic the red quadrants with the yellow begin the top edge there and the background patterned paper being the green.

From there I took the idea of the ball volleying back and forth across the court to add in my color play. With the kelly green background on the right I decided to add those green labels on the left. Then I took the blue vellum on the left and hit across some blue in the label on the right. Then I saw the pink vellum on the right and came back with some pink patterned paper on the left. Back and forth, back and forth, just like tennis!

This is a sneak peek of September's Papercrafting and Artisan Add-ons!  It's a bright happy month suitable for all sorts of scrapping.  Those two yellow sheets you see are vintage pieces from the main kit!

I also added in some vellum and sequins from my stash and the little camera is a diecut available through Silhouette.

JBS Summer Games: Tennis Inspiration

Popping in with even more inspiration for your weekend and the tennis inspired challenge! Like Jill in the previous post, I took inspiration from the tennis court to arrange the photos on my layout. Instead of blocking my photos in the center, I chose to go with one larger horizontal, and two vertical photos to flank it.

You can definitely get the feel of a great tennis volley from the spinning "wheels" on my layout, as well!

I can't even tell you how excited I was when I received September's kits! Fabulous, colorful and fun - packed with tons of stuff that I love! A little bit of chicken feed, cough syrup and speckled egg inks added to this month's exclusive mask may have made this a new fave.

JBS Summer Games: Even More Tennis!

Hi all! It's Jill here, serving up another tennis-inspired layout on this fine Saturday, along with a peek at the JBS September main and artisan kits!
Taking my cue from the tennis court "sketch" below, I resized and arranged my photos in blocks in Photoshop, and printed them that way, saving me from having to trim them individually.

The arrows on the tennis court diagram caught my eye immediately, and lucky me, the September main kit contains a sheet of patterned paper that helped me to mimic those arrows.

JBS Summer Games: Tennis anyone? :)

Hello Hello it is Louise here :)

This weekend a few of us thought we'd have a friendly tennis tournament.  We're drawing sketch inspiration from the official pro tennis court dimensions shown below.  Inspiration truly is everywhere! and for me also from my amazing DT mate Dina Wakley, who I took total style inspiration from, for the creation of this layout!

I has used the tennis court diagram as a starting point for my layout, depicting this by collaging some of the fabulous JBS Kraft Die-cut and perforated stamp paper on the background.

I have then used the stencil die-cut paper as a mask with some texture paste. As you can see I have also had some fun with the fabulous JBS Ranger paints and re-inkers. If you look at the black and white photo you can see that is has been painted, I have used both ink and paint to do this.

Stay tuned for a couple more inspiring tennis matches this weekend!  At least one of them will include a peek at our upcoming September kit selection!
