Guest Star Evie Erickson!

This month we are delighted to welcome Evie Erickson as our guest with JBS Mercantile.  Here is just a sampling of her lovely work.  You can see more in the JBS Mercantile Gallery and on her blog,  http://artfulscrapbooking.wordpress.com/ .

First of all let me just start by saying I love scrapbooking!  I have a background in fine arts and discovered scrapbooking in 2002 shortly after my son was born.  I just loved how this hobby encompassed everything I liked doing; taking pictures, making art, and writing.  Over the years I've gone back and forth between fine arts and scrapbooking, until 2012 when I realized scrapbooking is my art...and I've been a happy camper every since!! I so enjoy being part of the online crafting community and have so much fun blogging my scrappy adventures.
Four Corners is my favorite layout I created with the July kits.  I just love this photo of my son with a different appendage in each state...he looks like a bug.  Gathering the bits and pieces of the kits I made a medallion of sorts. I layered patterned paper, the wood veneer dominoes, flair, and metal star, giving the page a southwest feel.  I really love how this layout documents this awesome funny moment in time.

Here is a mixed media mini album I made in 2007 about my son and the passage of time.  I keep it on display in my craft area. It has layers and layers of paint, paper, rub-ons, and found items.  I actually found the yellow button on the streets of Paris!

This picture of my son in this mini is one of my all time favorites.  Being a mixed media album you would think I put this red heart sticker right on the photo, but no, my son came out of kindergarten one day with it stuck to his nose.  Of course, I had to snap this pic; a one in million shot!
Thanks for the inspiration, Evie!

Christmas in July

Our sale goods at Snap Click Supply Company today are a collection of digital Christmas goods.  Yes, it is officially Christmas in July.  Personally, I need to think cold thoughts here as our heat and humidity are hitting high levels today.

Chantalle McDaniel has created the most lovely Christmas flip book using some of our kits on display.  I'll let her describe it for you.

Read all the way to see her short video of the entire book!

Festive Countdown Notes

During the festive season, my diary is jam-packed. So many little things to remember, the Postit notes start to pile up!

I have created this flip style note pad for when the days get busier.

Using the ‘Countdown Stars’ as a guide, I have created an additional number 25 and used my Epiphany round tool to create a charm.

The title was cut on my Silhouette Cameo. I have used ‘Season’s Greetings’ from the Vintage Christmas Words kit.

• Inside, there are 24 note pages. I created them by setting up 9 boxes across an A4 page in a word processing programme (I use Indesign). I have then filled each box with a different patterned paper from the 'Vintage Christmas’ and 'Vintage Christmas 2’ kits. Create another 2 pages and fill those boxes with patterned paper too. Some had to be repeated, but you can have fun with the sizes of the prints so they look different.

• Create a white overlay over the top so you can see your writing.

• Once you are happy with your set up, simply print and trim the cards up! Punch a few holes at the top and pop a couple of album rings in.

• You can keep the notebook as is, or you can create a simple stand by folding a strip of sturdy card into a triangular shape. Make sure to punch some holes at the top of the stand too, so your notes attach via the album rings.

The inside pages have been simply embellished with Advent Stars from the Vintage Christmas 2 Kit (printed at diameter of 25mm across and punched) and my favourite Gold Rubon Stars.

July is a special month as double the number of kits are on sale each Wednesday!  Here's some awesome and special inspiration from two of our digital and hybrid creative team members.

Niru's style is so light and airy, I really must scrap lift her one day.  She printed elements from our Soda Water papers and placed them just so, adding vellum and touches here and there just as Niru can.

Susie used the Sunny Skies kit to create this stunning digital layout.  This is another layout design I'd really like to try myself!

Thank you ladies for the wonderfully creative work!  This massive sale runs through tonight midnight PT!

Stamps and Frames (and Zombie Glasses)

Everyone should have someone who makes him or her laugh on a regular basis. My someone is my zany husband, who recently donned a pair of zombie glasses and casually called to me. As I turned to face him, I was initially shocked, and then I burst out in laughter, reaching for my camera. The July JBS Mercantile kits helped me to document the moment for posterity.
The slide frames from the Antiquarian kit serve as little homes for accents as well as the monogram title of the layout. I love the metallic sheen from the Gold Star Tomatoes label.
The journaling, which talks about my husband's gift for silliness, is written on a tag and tucked behind the ledger paper.
I used one of the exclusive stamps from the Papercrafting kit to add some color and whimsy to the page.
The circle, stamped repeatedly, forms a border at the top and bottom of the page. I filled in the circles with blue and yellow ink daubers.

I used the square stamp on another project this month, once again stamping repeatedly and filling the centers with color.
This time I used watercolors in varying hues. I painted red, yellow, and blue circles to match the colors in the photos, and then mixed the blue and red watercolor paint to create purple, which I added last.
I didn't expect to get so much mileage out of these stamps, and I'm not even done creating with them yet!

Thanks for stopping by today!

A Simple Twist on Red, White and Blue

I loved the patriotic feel of the July kits. Who wouldn't! However, I decided to challenge myself to use the kits for a non patriotic layout. Though red, white and blue remind many people of the Fourth of July, simply adding in an unexpected color can change the feel of the layout. I chose to add pink and gold.

Making pink letters was a breeze. I simply painted the chipboard letters from the kit with some pink paint. I added some vintage pink buttons and chose one of the cards from the Historian kit. I cut the card down to fit my page. Most people don't expect pink on a boy's layout. I like how it brings an unexpected pop of color to the red, white and blue palette.

What have you created with your July kits? Share your projects with us in the JBS Mercantile Flickr gallery.

Get a Double Scoop on your Digital Stash

Snap Click Supply Co. is doubling up on their products for sale on Wednesdays through the entire month of July!

Here's what JBS is offering on sale in their digital shoppe today:

Check out this sale link and you'll see everything!

Chantalle McDaniel has a wonderful hybrid layout using some of the products from the sale kits above and other JBS supplies.  She show us step by step how she created her own cut file from the paper in our Boardwalk kit.  What a great idea Chantalle!

The speech bubble print on this Boardwalk paper inspired me to create a continuous pattern on my page. I have created a cut file from the shapes on the paper, using Photoshop and Silhouette Studio.

• Start by opening the file in Photoshop
• Using the magic wand tool, select areas that you wish to use (works best on solid fills)
• Copy the selection and past in a new document
• If the fill is white, give it a different fill colour so it will stand out in Studio
• Save your file (jpeg or png etc)

Now open Silhouette Studio

• Open the file you just created in Photoshop
• Select the area you would like to trace using the trace menu and choose ‘cut edge’
• Save your cut file and you are ready to go!

I have used a selection of papers from The Boardwalk Collection to matt the cut area.

Materials:

Digital:

JBS The Boardwalk Collection
JBS Vintage Mini Deck Animal Trivia

Traditional:

JBS Gold Pennants Rub-ons
JBS Gold Star Rub-ons
JBS Chalkboard Flatbacks
JBS Bloom Sequins
JBS Magpie ‘Gather’ paper
JBS Button Wood Veneer

Thank you Chantalle!  This is definitely a great tutorial to come back and refer to over and over! Pinned!
