Need Labels?

We've got them in digital and on sale today:

Our Classic Label Papers can be used as labels (just print and cut or punch), or as backgrounds and embellishments for your scrapbook pages.  Our Family Tree Collection is a beautiful kit that contains not only some labels and journaling cards, but beautiful digital papers too.  The colors in this kit are rich and pretty, just in time for fall.

Let's see how our creative team used these kits:

Cassie Wiscarson made a hybrid layout and used the Classic Label Papers to back her photo, hold her title, and as a journaling spot.   I love how she used the letter "I" in the Die Cut Stencil Paper as part of her title.

Other supplies Cassie used that you should check out:

We've also got some digital layouts to show off:

This beauty from Carrie uses the die cut alphabet paper in Family Tree in the middle of the layout as an interesting background.  How beautiful!

Audrey also used a die cut label as her background, but enlarged it to cover most of the 12x12 space. The ledger design makes this element particularly suited to journaling.

other supplies Audrey used:
Jenni Bowlin Studio: Classic Label Papers, Family Tree Collection, Printers Block Alpha
Julianna Kniepp Designs: Capturing Yesterday And Always, Keep The Faith, What You Bring To It
Font: Pea Walker

This sale only runs through midnight tonight and is a great one for traditional and digital scrappers alike!

Autumn Love

I have never lived in a place in which the seasons visibly change. I have never known the beauty of the trees as they wear their fall colors. Despite this, autumn is my favorite season. Where I live, the signs are very subtle. You have to really look to find and appreciate the change.

The most obvious sign of fall is the change in the visitors that come to our island. The number of people drops off as children return to school. A new type of tourist now chooses to visit. They are sometimes a bit older and there is rarely any children in tow.

The most obvious sign that fall has come is the arrival of the migratory birds. They come here from the north to spend the winter with us. Of all the birds, the ducks are our favorite. They return to the same pond year after year. Their arrival is never actually seen. More ducks appear at the pond each day as if by magic. We make it a point to walk down to the pond to welcome the new ducks with a meal. Things pick up as though the ducks never left. They see us coming and speedily make their way to the dock. It's as though they remember us.

I used the September Main kit and Artisan add on kit to create this layout. I sprinkled in some gold sequins and added in some leaves from the Maple Leaves cut file.

What are the signs of autumn where you live? Are they subtle or do they occur on a grand scale? Share your autumn love with us in the JBS Mercantile Customer Gallery.

Cassie and the Cutting File

We have a new kit on sale this weekend and this kit can be used three ways:  as a brush, cut file, or digital mask.

Cassie Wiscarson used the cutting files (.dxf or .svg) included in the kit to make this sweet layout:

Here's how Cassie used the files.  She took the Diamond Design file, enlarged it to fit a 12x12 sheet of cardstock, cut it out with her digital cutting machine and then traced the images onto her white background.

She then took the Variegated Chevron file and cut it onto a smaller piece of cardstock and sprayed it with ink.  This became her mat for her photo.

Our brush*cut*mask files come with 4 file types so digital scrapbookers and traditional scrapbookers with cutting machines can use them alike.  Thank you Cassie for showing us creative ways to use our new kit!  Grab it this weekend while it's on sale!

Other supplies used:

Rub-Ons - Pennants - Gold

Rub-Ons - Scattered Stars - Gold

Rub-Ons - Dominos - Gold

Skinny Alpha Stickers - Red

Die-Cut and Perforated Papers - Tags Sheet

One Buck Wednesday = Digi Sale

It's Wednesday again and that means digital sale time!

Be Our Guest is a collection of a JBS favorite.  The kit comes with 12 patterned papers, a die-cut circular clock pattern, and journaling cards that can be used for journaling, embellishments, or as frames.

Chantalle McDaniel used this kit so creatively in her layout "Mooo".  She used some of the journaling cards as frames for photos and patterned paper and in the large focal point photo, she framed just one part of the photo.  Genius and oh so creative!

Materials

JBS Be Our Guest collection (Journaling cards & papers)
JBS Book pages kit
JBS Wren cardstock
JBS Playful embellishment kit
JBS Baby of Mine journalling card

Book Pages is a kit of book cover and book page images.  This kit is especially adaptable to hybrid scrapbooking too.

Carrie Arick had a wonderfully creative idea in her digital layout below.  She enlarged and colorized the dictionary page image (you can do that in digital!) and used it as her background.  This dictionary page came from a page containing the word "family" and similar words.  How appropriate for Carrie's layout of her son and his cousin.

Hybrid Happiness and a Sale

We've got two digital kits at SnapClickSupplyCo today and don't fret traditional scrappers!  Wait until you see how our Creative Team member,  Chantalle McDaniel used The Writer's Collection to create a lovely "physical" layout and take a look at our other kit on sale: it's great for pocket pages:

Here's Chantalle:

‘Writer’s Block’

My DS is really into composing his own short stories at the moment. It makes me swell with pride to see him using his imagination to create worlds of his own! JBS ‘The Writer’s Collection' could not have been more perfect for documenting this memory.

I started (as I usually do with hybrid layouts) by setting my idea up on my Mac in a blank document. This one is quite simple in it’s design and was predominantly printed straight onto kraft card stock. I’ve never been a fan of my handwriting, so I type it up when I can.

I am absolutely smitten with these Pen Nibs! Every element in this little kit is beautiful.

I cut some of the title out on my Silhouette Cameo (after I had already printed the first part of it out) It was quite tricky working out the spacing, but worth the bit of effort. I wanted to play on the word ‘block’, creating a kind of jump in the text, mirroring my son’s frustration with himself when he doesn’t get his words or ideas onto paper, quite perfectly. Hence, the ‘O’ is a bit distressed.

The pocket is a simple folded strip, machine stitched closed. Inside, is a photocopy of one of his stories.

Materials:

Digital

JBS The Writer’s Collection

Traditional

JBS Wren ‘Typing Lesson’
JBS Flatbacks ‘Icons’

Absolutely Gorgeous Chantalle!  You have inspired me!  Thank you for sharing.

September's Exclusive Stamp

One of my favorite items in the September Mercantile Papercrafting kit is the exclusive stamp.  The circular shape was designed specifically so a flatback or flair could fit nicely in the middle.  There are so many ways to use this stamp - punch circles from patterned paper and place them in the centers,  paint the middles, place buttons in the middles ... and on and on.  The "here's the story:" sentiment is quite versatile and a great journaling starter for any layout.

This month, the circular Leaf Frame Stamp comes with a downloadable Outline Cut.

Directions on how to use the Outline Cut are included, but here it is in a nutshell:

1.  Your download will give you file types that can be used in any digital cutting machine. Cut your outline shapes sized at 1.75 inches wide.   I cut more than I may need for a particular project so I always have some on hand.

Grab a scrap of paper in a contrasting paper and run a temporary adhesive strip across it.

2.  Place your cuts on the adhesive strip and ink up your stamp on an acrylic block.

3.  Position your stamp over the shape so the image will be centered evenly on it.  Using a contrasting scrap of cardstock underneath your cut images helps to position your stamp.

Easy, right?!

I used a waterproof ink with my stamp and then then painted them with blue watercolor:

I love getting an uneven look to my watercolor and achieved this by lightly coloring the image first and then saturating my brush and blotting areas heavily after.

After the stamping the frames on the left, circles punched from patterned paper were added to the centers.  The frames become great "homes" for embellishments.

Our September Papercrafting Kit is a beautiful one!  I hope you love creating with it and please show us what you make!

Back to School with JBS

Back to school: these three words may bring to mind freshly sharpened pencils, reams of folder paper, ringing bells, and a smiling teacher waiting at the classroom door.

About that teacher.

By the end of the day, she is exhausted.  Her peppy morning skip up the school steps gives way to a zombielike shuffle down those steps as she leaves campus.   Her neatly coiffed hair is now limp and in need of a good brushing and detangling.  Her lovely coordinated outfit is now wrinkled and some serious sweat circles have been added to the look.  Her whole body wants to fall into bed, but she should make time to eat at least once today...and there is also tomorrow to plan for.  There is also a miracle yet to come -- by the next morning,  she'll be skipping up the steps again, ready to teach.

So what brings us teachers back to school, day after day?  This layout attempts to answer that question.
There is something to be said about creating a page in the moment, as I did here. After a long day at school, I returned home and, while I was still in my "oh, man, what a day" mindset, I put together this layout. First, I reviewed the detail photos that I had taken to document a day in the life of a teacher. I compiled them in a grid and printed them in a large block, around which I built the rest of the layout.

The foundation of the layout includes several sheets of vintage papers from the JBS Mercantile September Antiquarian Kit.  They are right at home on a page about an English teacher!

I layered the papers over each other, pairing two large lined sheets behind the photo block. I added my journaling on the lines, reflecting on how each day of teaching and learning really is a gift, and what thrills and delights us as we learn (and teach) will keep us learning (and teaching).

The title letters and accents are from the JBS Mercantile September Papercrafting Kit

For me, heading back to school does not just involve a process, but a mindset. I try my best to take that "back to school" excitement and keep heading "back to school" all year long with all of the enthusiasm that I can muster. It's exhausting, yes, but it makes a difference.  Experiencing that "frisson" makes it all worth it.
