Valentine by Wilna Furstenberg

Making Flickr mosaics of my favorite pictures are one of my favorite things to do. I love to look for inspiration for my pages everywhere. This week I did a Valentine theme as Valentine is this coming weekend. I combined some of my flickr favourites with some of my own pictures and it just made a cool combination. I also used all the text from this months kit to spell the word LOVE. Finally Taylor Swift's song, "Today Was a Fairytale" was the inspiration for the words. Thanks for looking! Make those LOVE pages and show us!

Miss Prescott Had Once Been in Love . . .

We always love to see what our customers have been creating with the ideas we bring to you here on the inspiration blog. This treasure is by Cathryn Dubow. She created this gorgeous rendition of the vintage collage frame for her husband for Valentine's Day. Shhh! Don't tell him! She was also kind enough to send us these in progress shots that her friend Christy G. took so you can get a better idea of the process in action. I think this version is so striking with the portrait occupying the enlarged glass plate. Cathryn has entitled it "Miss Prescott Had Once Been in Love" based on some of the vintage book text that she used to complete it. Thanks so much for the inspiration Cathryn!

my husband, while being sweet and kind and very helpful on a day-to-day basis, is not exactly what you would call a romantic. and because of that, i know that our valentine's day is not going to be one full of roses and boxes of chocolate and fancy restaurants (something i'm ok with, as long as he at least acknowledges the day). knowing this, i knew that i was going to have to come up with something for valentine's day that didn't cost alot and that actually meant something. so when he mentioned the other day that i needed to put up more photos of our wedding on the walls of our apartment, i knew that that's what i would make to give him for the big love day: a wedding photo decorated with art supplies to go up in our living room.
to create this project, i didn't want to just use the traditional valentine's day red and pink...partially because i want it to last longer than just a holiday, partially because it's for a man and those just aren't nate's colors, and a little bit because i've always loved non-traditional takes on holiday color mixes. so i instead painted the clipboard (from michael's) using leftover blue wall paint from my latest home-decor project. once the paint dried, i added the photo, making it hang over the edge just a little to give it visual interest, and used jenni's letter stickers for the title.
the banner was created by taking jenni's crepe ribbon, twisting and glue dotting it into a clothesline-type effect over the photo to hang the new banner stickers from, before adding the I LOVE U on top with her new small round letter stickers.

last, i added small strips of the turquoise mini papers to the bottom of the photo...held on by masking tape to mute the colors a little, and added the 3 butterflies in flight across the page.
the end result is a pretty simple piece of art that i think my husband will like because it means something to us and is something we can keep forever. much better than a box of chocolates that would be consumed within minutes...:)

Valentine by Michelle McCord

I decided to create a canvas type hanging for my mom for Valentine's day. I can't even tell you what the little plastic squares I used are called (to make the background) My mom's husband works in a factory and brought me home these 4x4 inch plastic looking frames. I covered them with some Moda fabric, and used that as my canvas.

I started adding all the new and VERY beautiful butterflies onto the canvas along with some rhinestones for butterfly trails, and some felt butterflies layered and blinged up. I layered two of the felt butterflies, used my sewing machine to sew them together and added some of my own bling to mimic the look of the new JBS Embellished Butterflies. Love how layering them makes them really look like they are flying off the page.

I made my favorite 'penant' on this canvas to add some whimsy. Before attaching the penant flags, I dipped the tips of them into some pink Kaiser paint that came with the January JBS kit to give it a look like frosting. Total Sweetness! Thanks for the inspiration Michelle!
