JBS + Pencil Lines!

We at Jenni Bowlin Studios are excited to team up with Pencil Lines to bring you today's blog post. Three of our design team members have created layouts using a sketch
from their fabulous new book "Pencil Lines the Sketchbook." Founder Ana Bowkis helps deliver some awesome inspiration each week on their blog, Pencil Lines; you really should check it out!

In fact, if you do you could be a winner! We're giving away a Homespun sample pack to one lucky reader. Simply leave a comment on this post and one on the JBS post on the Pencil Lines blog and we'll randomly choose a winner next Monday afternoon!

P.S. We'd also love to see what you create with this same sketch that our design team just used, so be sure to post a link here if you have a chance to scrap with it. :)

Guest Star: Jo-Anne Te Raa

My name is Jo-Anne and I live in Holland! I love all the tags in this month's kit and it inspired me to make an altered book. I thought a lot over the last few months about some of the memories I have that are so so simple but easily forgotten, never written down and lost. Like travelling on the red double decker bus each week with my nana or walking with my doll's pram whilst a bottle of bitter lemon rolled backwards and forwards in my basket. I can still hear that sound so clearly. So this is my book of tales, a book of simple memories and funny stories that I can add to when ever the fancy takes! Thank you Jenni for the tags this month!!!

And thank YOU Jo for sharing your delightful stories and charming book with us. :)

Guest Star: Cathryn Dubow

When I started scrapbooking, I was working as a librarian, had young children and was very busy with all sorts of volunteer commitments. Even before digital cameras, I took a lot of pictures. So, it might not come as a surprise that I was primarily concerned with photo organization and preservation. My pages were simple and the more photos I could fit on the page, the happier I was. Having my albums “caught up” was my main goal.
Fast forward sixteen years.

My nest is empty and I take fewer pictures. Scrapbooking has become a creative outlet for me rather than another job to get done. I might only have one photo on the page. I might take the time to create an elaborate embellishment. I might even pull out the sewing machine and stitch on a page! Things I swore I would never do. But, I’m having so much more fun!

Thanks for the inspiration Cathryn!

Guest Star: Wendy Smedley + a GIVEAWAY!

I am a huge fan of Jenni Bowlin products, I still have a collection of the label stickers she made when she was working with Li'l Davis Designs and I took her class at Big Picture Scrapbooking last summer. Mixing the old with the new is something I am very found of, and Jenni's class instruction made opened my eyes even more to the possibilities of mixing and using items in new ways.

I have been redecorating my office and wanted a mini display of images for the top of a shelf, and I just happened to have some old wooden spools laying on my table next to lollipop sticks, and the next thing I knew I was making a delicate photo vignette with the sticks inserted into the spools.

I covered the sticks in book paper using mod podge and adhered the photos and flowers onto the backs of the sticks. Easy to do, and quick. Have fun and stop by my blog and say hello sometime, oh and I am working with Ella Publishing and we have a free eBook this month, download it and let me know what you liked and what you didn't like. (Don't you think Jenni should do an eBook?)

Wendy is also graciously sponsoring two ebook giveaways: UR2Cre8ive and Stretch Your Sketches! Leave a comment on this post and we will randomly draw two winners this Friday afternoon!

Source Notes:

Baker's twine is my new obsession, I purchase mine on etsy, my favorite sources are

Also a source for spools is your local thrift store or these etsy shops

patterned paper: Jenni Bowlin (geo flower Homespun collection, Homespun mini papers)
stamps: Lawn Fawn (petite florals)
ink: Ranger Adirondack (espresso)
stickers: Jenni Bowlin (Homespun banner alpha stickers)

My name is Kelly Marie Alvarez. I live in Orange County with my sweet hubby, Mike, and my lovable and quirky dog, Putter. I love fun and bright design that makes people smile. When I first saw the Homespun mini papers, I just knew they had to become little flowers. Cherry and plaid printed flowers are just heaven! So I stamped and cut out these mini flowers and created a garden for the fabulous banner stickers to hang over. The cheery card is perfect to remind a good friend that you miss them and leave them with a smile.

Supplies Used:
Homespun Die-Cut Label Paper
Homespun Mini Papers
Spring Mini-Bingo Cards
Homespun Banner Stickers
Red Banner Stickers
Multi Dotted Labels
Orange Embellished Butterflies
Vintage Style Sew-On Buttons - Green
Pearl & Rhinestone Pins - Cream

As soon as I saw Jenni's new Homespun paper line I thought of the old feed sacks my grandmother used to save and use to create gorgeous quilts. So with my grandmother in mind I decided to create this "Wishing You A Hoppy Easter" piece in her memory. I feel the color scheme of this new line is perfect for any Spring or Easter themed project. This sweet piece can be placed on a scrapbook page as an accent for your Easter photos or in a frame and hung for all to see.

Lisa lives in Frisco, Texas with her husband and two daughters. She is the Special Projects Coordinator for Maya Road and a Certified Fiskars Demonstrator. Her first book, “Delight In The Details,” was published in January of 2010 by North Light Books.

In May of 2007, she was picked as one of 5 master scrapbookers in Martha Stewart’s scrapbooking contest and August of 2007, was chosen as a 2008 Memory Makers Master.

Her work has been published in magazines such as Memory Makers, Scrapbooks etc., Better Homes and Gardens and Scrapbooking & Cards Today as well as numerous idea books like Holiday Home, Scrapbook Trends, Paper Trends, Paper Creations and Scrapbooking & Beyond.

Seeing cute, old people makes me smile.
The movies I have seen recently are: Valentine's Day, An Education, and No Impact Man.
I usually only require 7 hours of sleep and don't wake up to an alarm most days.

For "Our Visit to the Baha'i Temple," I cut out parts of the brochure and added some hand stitched flowers. The buttons are irresistible and rub-ons are one of my favorite products. For "Girls Trip to Napa" it was fun to use the paper to frame the photos. Everything is Jenni Bowlin, except for the Studio Calico sticker and the Washi Tape. Thanks so much for having me here!
