From Pinterest to Scrapbook Page | Banner Inspired

Do you use Pinterest as inspiration for your scrapbooking?  Watch our blog this month as our design team shows you how they've used Pinterest as inspiration for their pages using the September and new October Mercantile Kits.

I'd love to show you how I used a poster-type ad as inspiration for one of my layouts.

I had an older photo of my boys and their friends playing backyard football. This was a very common activity for my boys during particular years of their youth and I only had this one photo as a memory, so it is a precious photo and I couldn't wait to scrapbook it!

I was a bit stuck on how to use the photo on a page until I saw this ad in my Pinterest Board: Project Inspiration.  My Project Inspiration board is a collection of images that on first glance could inspire my pages in some way, whether it be layout design, color or virtually anything.  If I think there might be some inspiration in an image, it's pinned.  I don't give the actually act of pinning too much thought!

I liked the multi-banner flag in this ad and used that idea as the springboard and main focus of my page.

I went through a lot of revisions with my banner flag,  but stuck to these main design themes:  multiple banners, different banner colors and ends, and typewriting on the banner.  After playing with varying combinations I decided on the combination above and even turned my photo into a banner piece.

I wanted to use the oversized letters in the October Artisan kit, so created my title with them and placed them as if they were exploding from the photo.  Ink splats and Artisan kit sequins draw the eye diagonally.

The exclusive owl stamp stamps a beautiful image and I embossed this one to a shiny finish.  The die-cut in the lower left of the layout is a sneak at a new cutting file coming soon to the JBS Digital Shoppe - look for it early November.  It was so perfect here, I couldn't resist using it.

Keep checking our blog as you see more "Pinterest to Scrapbook Page" examples using our monthly kits!

Vintage Images as Journaling Prompts

There was a sheet of patterned paper in the September Papercrafting Kit that was simply a treasure trove of journaling inspiration.  You can see it in the bottom right hand corner of the image below.  I dare you to study it a moment and then not think of three or four stories that you need to tell.  It's just a beautiful sheet of paper for invoking memories.  I made this page about my brother and I based on thoughts that came to mind from the little follow the reader silhouette.  Now I am trying to decide which story from the page to tell next.

Several of our design team members were inspired by this page as well.

Jill used the little girls frolicking and a butterfly to document her daughter's Russian host family and their nature hike . . .

Jill used another pair of little girls to express her happiness with a favorite drink . . .

And Lisa used another little boy and girl motif with a layout of her favorite guy.

Have you been inspired by this sheet of paper as well?  We'd love to hear about it!

The October crafted kit comes with everything you need to create these three stuffed fabric pumpkins.

The kit also comes with complete instructions including full color photos for each step! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Digital Halloween Sale : For Paper Scrappers too!

Our JBS Digital Shoppe has 2 great kits on sale today!  The elements in these kits can be used not only in your digital pages, but in your paper crafting too.

Halloween Merry has FOUR file types.  The .svg and .dxf can be used in your electronic cutting machines, while the .abr and .png can be used on your digital pages.

The .png files in this kit can be printed and cut for your paper projects or used directly onto your digital layout too.

Cassie Wiscarson created this Halloween card using both kits, and Vintage Halloween.  The Triangles Sequins are the perfect Halloween bling here aren't they?

Carrie Arick created this digital layout using both kits also.  She used the png files included in Halloween Merry as digital elements in her layout.  I love the spooky and detailed vine in Halloween Merry.  It's such a great addition to Carrie's page.

And Betsy created these Halloween tags last year. If you missed out then, you'll want to check out her blog post here that shows how easy they are to make using the cutting files in Halloween Merry.

These 2 kits will be on sale through today - so grab yours now.

XL October Alpha Inspiration!

When our October Kits began arriving in the eager hands of our design team members, I heard a little rumor that the oversized alphabet set in the Artisan Add-on might be difficult to use.  Hmmm . . . I will let you be the judge of that!

Doris Sander (that's me!) used them as an abbreviation for her son's favorite campout of the year.  She will also be back later this month with a birthday banner tutorial!  Stay tuned!

The alphas probably work most easily as a short title.  Jill got extra style points with hers by going vertical.  (p.s. Thanks, Jill, for the sequins on a string inspiration above! ;).

Another clever approach that is seen more than once in the gallery, is to use the letters as part of a larger title.  Here Amanda has the cute two word sentence, "I Roar!" The "I" is in the oversized alpha while the "roar" is handwritten onto a speech bubble coming off it..  Too awesome.

If you want to use a larger word title, try breaking it up as our guest, Katie Scott did here.  The enlarged title across the page makes a very striking design statement.

And, of course, there is the classic monogram as seen here by the every classy, Lisa Dickinson.

Be sure to check out the Design Team Gallery!  There are even more ideas there!

What do you think?  Have you found some inspiration yet?  Ready to tackle those oversized alphas?  Yes?  Then go forth and create!  :)

Guest Star, Katie Scott!

We are delighted to welcome our October guest, Katie Scott, to the JBS Mercantile Inspiration Blog.

Hi, I'm Katie Scott.  I'm on the creative team at Get It Scrapped.  I blog at www.kissandtellscrapbooking.com; I also have a You Tube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/KissandTellScrapbook where I do real time scrapbook process videos.

I was so inspired by the JBS Mercantile October Kits that I went on a scrapbooking frenzy and I'm in the process of finishing 15 layouts with this them (Katie's favorite layout is below, but you can see four more finished layouts in the October Design Team Gallery, with more on the way on the 15th when we do mid-month updates)!

Happy Camper Ruby is probably my favorite layout so far because I used a photo from my grandmother's scrapbook - this was a scrapbook that her sister made for her in the early 1940s and I hadn't seen until this past summer.  I'm having so much fun getting to know my Nana Ruby as a young woman.  I had fun with mist on this layout - something I don't do very often in my scrapbooking.  This layout was easy to put together and I felt like I was playing while I created it.

I can happily say that my scrapbooking tanker style desk is still a bit of a mess from playing with the JBS kit.  I used my favorite adhesive for die cuts Thermoweb Sticky Dots as a holding place for all those lovely Fancy Pants sequins from the kit.  They are just waiting for me to add those final touches to the rest of the layouts I have created with the kit.  Plus, I can't wait to use that wood veneer die cut on a layout about Thanksgiving - I put the My Mind's Eye wood veneer paper that came in the kit through my Silhouette Cameo and it cut perfectly!

This is my favorite picture right now:  This is the last photo I took:  I brought my son and his friend over to a mangrove island near our house to go fishing and build a camp fire - we kayaked and paddle boarded over and beat the storm on the way home.  It was a good day.

Thanks for the inspiration, Katie!  We love it and are excited to see even more soon!

It Feels Like Fall Around Here ...

I'm writing this post from the eastern part of the US and our forecast today is sunny in the mid 50s. Sounds like gorgeous fall weather, doesn't it?

It also feels like a gorgeous fall in our JBS Mercantile and JBS Digital Shoppe!

I went crisp and simple with my first layout.  I loved the leaves on the October Afternoon patterned paper so much that I fussy cut them to use on my page.

Extra photos are held inside one of the Fancy Pants library card holders.

Our kits are flying off the shelves and the Antiquarian add-on is already sold out, so grab your kit now!

We're certainly feeling fall in our Digital Shoppe too!  We have two kits released this weekend:

Autumn Crisp is a beautiful kit of autumn inspired patterned papers designed by no other than Lisa Dickinson!

We're also releasing a cardstock kit to match!

Audrey Tan created this beautiful digital page full of layers and digital artistry.

Susie Moore layered up a storm in her layout.

The digital kits are on sale through Sunday midnight PT.

We hope our autumn inspired offerings are just what you need to document your memories this season!
