Modern Mercantile | Mini Pattern Paper

 

One of my most favorite items in the newest line is the single sheet of Mini Patterns. There are so many different ways that you can use it! The simplest is to cut them apart separately, but you can also fold them expertly and make a mini book or cut some simple patterns like i did into each 4"x4" square which creates an entirely new piece of layered pattern paper.

The silhouette cameo is perfect for this (but you could also use one of martha's all over the page punches too) as the grid in the software makes it easy to pop your shapes into it so you know exactly where to cut, and exactly how far apart to space your shape, as i did with a simple heart that i created in photoshop and then loaded into my silhouette software as a .png file. 

Then I cut some 4" x 4" papers and added them behind the hearts to create some extra patterns (the ledger paper is from last month's antiquarian kit).

After creating the new background i added a few pictures and some simple embellishments. fast and easy but makes a big impact.

Art Journaling in Vintage Ledger by Dina Wakley

Here is another amazing art journal page by Dina Wakley.  This series is done on vintage ledger which makes for amazing detail in the background of Dina's Work.  The vintage bits are from the February Antiquarian Add-on and the clock face is a digital cut file from Lisa Dickinson.

JBS Mercantile February Gallery Updates!

Time for more eye-candy.  There's lots more where this one, by Karine, came from!  Check out the design team gallery for lots of scrappy goodness.  The Papercrafting Kit is already sold out, but there are a few Mini-Album Kits and Add-ons to be had.  Get them before they're gone too!

The Happiest "Les Miserables" Page Ever?

The moment I saw Modern Mercantile and the other new releases from Jenni Bowlin (many of which are in this month's JBS Mercantile kits), I just knew that I would love working with them.

I began this layout by creating a stamped background with one of the six new book set stamps.

Using the ledger stamp (which can be found in the February mini-album kit from JBS Mercantile), I stamped a sheet of white cardstock, alternating between two approaches to adding color -- misting the back of the stamp and coating it with JBS dye ink. After filling the background with stamped images, I spritzed pink and yellow mist lightly over the cardstock, adding some droplets here and there. 

I then pulled together a bunch of journaling cards, including a few from the JBS Mini-Decks, as well as some rectangles that I trimmed from the new Modern Mercantile collection. I clustered the cards and papers above and around the photo.

I also added a border of watch faces just below the photo. I have a thing for clocks and time motifs on layouts, so these are making me very, very happy...

just as I knew I would be when I finally had a chance to work with these lovelies!

Digi Friday: The Souvenir Embellishment Kit

There's another new release over in the JBS Digital Shoppe this Friday!

Celeste Smith has used one of the flashcards for her title and few of the buttons and a tab from this embellishment pack in a simple cluster.  When paired with these brightly colored prints this pages has a real "vintage fresh" feel to it.

Nirupama Kumar has used the flashcards from this pack in a series down the left side of her hybrid layout and  punched them up by adding a stroke of red paint (using the JBS paint dabber in Chili Powder) and some hand-stitching.  Don't you love the bold effect it has on this page!?

Chiara Castelluccia has scattered smaller versions of the flashcards throughout her freshly colored page and topped it off with the use of the Souvenier bead alpha for her title.

And here's one from me as well.  As you can see these embellishments pair perfectly with the recently released Red and Black Extension IV and I definitely see this bead alpha becoming a new fave of mine, that I'll be reaching for layout after layout.

Welcome and Welcome to Tina Walker!

We were super excited to have one of our Ambassadors, the fun and talented Tina Walker, guesting with us this month.  We are even more excited to announce that she will be joining our kit club gallery each month!  Here's a little bit more from her . . . 

Hi! Tina here today and I am so excited to be Guesting with JBS this month. The kit was FULL of the new 'Modern Mercantile' collection. I LOVE this line. Green has always been a favorite color of mine, but combined with the yellow and brown - WOW!

A little about me...

I am a working mom, working outside the home. I have been crafty since I was a little girl (I have my grandma to thank for that) and created my first scrapbook over 15 years ago. My latest obsession with scrapbooking started 3 years ago and I haven't stopped since.

My children are grown, so much of my crafty inspiration comes from my two French bulldogs, Moose and Flikka. They are getting quite the reputation in the scrapbook world. :) I live in snowy Salt Lake City, Utah, but am an Mid West girl by heart.

Scrapbooking is a sanity outlet for me. There is nothing better than coming home after a demanding day 'on the job' and getting 'lost' in paper, glue, and pretty little embellishments.

My favorite layout from the February kit is 'Selfie'. I love creating layouts with small pops of color and design. The simply stamped background {love this stamp}, with lots of LAYERS is my favorite type of layout to create. I just love it when little pops of color and pattern peek from behind your photo.

I also love the stencil and cut files that are included with the kit. Adding little details on your projects from either of these, really makes these kits special and amazing!

Doris asked me to share a picture of ONE of my favorite things in my 'creative' room. I couldn't decide on just ONE thing, so I combined several of them into ONE picture. (Okay, so I'm not so good at following directions - LOL).

My She Art wall - I love the creative expression of creating art canvases.
My vintage, script typewriter - I love to type my journaling and the script font is fab-u-lous!
My dog art - no explanation needed :)

Doris also asked that I share a favorite picture. Since my boys are 'older', it is really hard for me to get pictures of them. (they just don't seem to cooperate like they did when they were younger). This past fall, when I was back home (in Ohio), I 'convinced' them to go to a local park and get some pictures. This picture was taken with my phone and it was one of those 'in the moment' photos. I just love this picture and it really captured a special moment with my boys.

Lastly, I would like to thank Jenni and Doris and the amazing JBS Team for allowing me to share in this passion for paper art. I am so blessed to be part of the JBS Ambassador family, and am super excited to continue as a Design Team member for the kit! What fun! I can't wait!

Using Modern Mercantile for Project Life

Today I'd love to share the Project Life spread I made using Modern Mercantile. The card sheet, shown below, works perfectly for the divided 3x4 pockets for Project Life. The stencil used here with orange paint was from the current Mercantile February Kit. The butterfly is JBS digital and can be found HERE. These colors work so well for spring and summer. As you can see here they worked perfectly with my Easter pictures from last year. 

Jenni Bowlin Studio Modern Mercantile - Hodge Podge 

Aren't these fabulous? Lisa did a superb job designing this line! I can't get over how she was able to so perfectly marry vintage and modern. The sheet above, Hodge Podge, is what I used for several of my cards. Those doily cards are awesome! They all are! And I'm mad about the green scalloped eyelet lace on the back. You're definitely going to need two sheets of this one, minimum, so you can use both sides!

I cut the aqua floral card out, rounded the corners, and ran it through my printer using easy release tape on a scratch piece of paper that I had already printed with the text - a scratch 4x6 cardstock piece makes it easier to get a better alignment estimate in my opinion than a full 8.5x11 sheet.

The green floral card is also a pattern from Modern Mercantile - I simply cut it down to size and ran it through the printer again. I splattered mist on the green label card, let it dry, then ran that card through the printer as well to get the Ali Edwards digital brush stamp on there.
