Scrap Vintage | Ledger Papers

 

One of my very favorite items often included in the JBS Mercantile Antiquarian add-ons are vintage ledger and lined papers. These lovely aged sheets often have detailed graphics and logos, classic fonts and even actual handwriting upon them. And because of the lines and grids, they are perfect for journaling!

Most of these papers are yellowed with age, and while I love that patina on certain layouts, on this page I wanted to add a bit more color.  I started with several old papers from past kits and JBS stamp pads in Chewing Gum and Lavender Sachet, a Chewing Gum Reinker (not pictured), and a Ranger Mini Mister.

After punching the papers with a circle punch, I sprayed half of them with watered-down Chewing Gum Ink (add about 10 drops of ink to Mini Mister and then fill halfway with water). While still wet, I dabbed some of the circles directly on the pink ink pad to add even more color. For the lavender circles, I first misted them lightly with plain water and then rubbed them onto the Lavender Sachet ink pad. This creates a more mottled, watercolor effect.

Once my colored circles were dry, I layered them (along with circles punched from an old index card) across the bottom of my page.  A few lines of stitching helps hold them in the place:
   Topped with a few JBS Pearl Flowers, the colored paper circles create a lovely textured effect on the bottom half of my page:

I also used an aged graph paper to create a journaling circle and a tag, where I stamped my title using the JBS Alpha Stamps. I filled in the letters with pink and lavender ink markers to match my color scheme and added chipboard hearts rubbed with the Chewing Gum and Lavender Sachet inks.

 

I love the colorful results a bit of ink adds to these papers.  So don't be afraid to mix up your antique stash with brighter hued supplies.  It's a great way to customize your page and add fresh twist to vintage!

Scrap Vintage...typewriter inspired

During the month of October, the design team will be scrapping all things vintage.  The word vintage can mean and inspire so many things:  vintage photos, vintage memories, vintage ephemera, and gorgeous vintage Jenni Bowlin Studio product.  Vintage isn't just one style of scrapbooking either!  I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of different interpretations of this Jenni Bowlin appropriate theme from our design team!

I have been wanting to add a vintage typewriter to my "scrapbooking tools" for so long now. So, I put a little "wanted" post on my Facebook page & a friend was nice enough to give me this one. Hello! Free vintage is even better! Woot! 

So, of course I need to scrapbook about it!

I immediately thought of the  Wren - Typing Lessons sheet for my background. I added a few vintage pieces from past Antiquarian Kits; plus I was excited to find the original Owner's Guarantee Card in the box with my new typewriter. On the page it went!

Welcome to the JBS Team, Amanda Jones Robinson

We are very excited to welcome Amanda Jones Robinson to the JBS Team!  A little more about Amanda . . .

Amanda lives in Devon in the UK with her husband and 10 year old son, Lewis. She has an eclectic scrapbooking style–in which one day she will find herself creating a very minimal, graphic project and the next a textured project with layers of pretty papers and embellishments. One thing that is almost always present in her layouts is ample white space and, lately, she seems to have been bitten by the electronic die-cutting bug!

Amanda is blessed to have had the opportunity to work for some of her favourite scrapbooking companies both as a designer and teacher, and has been published in a number of magazines worldwide. She founded a scrapbooking challenge site http://thestudio.amandajonesdesigns.com back in 2009 which is still going strong and you can find her blog at http://blog.amandajonesdesigns.com.

I created this "Summer Posing" layout with the October Papercrafting Kit. It's a new favourite of mine, particularly because of the fun, bright colours and embellishments. It's unusual for me to use such bright colours in this quantity on a single page, I tend to prefer a neutral background, but I love how it turned out! I also like the way that wonderful exclusive stamp looks when stamped onto a geometric patterned paper.

I live in a small house here in the UK and space is limited, so my "studio" is actually spread between three rooms! I took this picture of how I store some of my favourite vintage crafty items. With such a small home it's extra useful when your supplies can double as a decorative display. I keep a selection of my most used antique books out on the top of a storage unit - ledgers, music, dictionaries and other interesting books which I use in my projects frequently. The little heart in the vintage frame I cut from an antique map and it shows the area in which we live.

My favourite photo at the moment is this one of my son taken at my wedding in June. [photo credit: http://LucyShergoldPhotography.co.uk] It makes me so happy to see the joy and pride written all over his face as he's watching the ceremony. It's at the top of my list to scrapbook... but it's one of those you hang on to for the planets to align so you can make it the perfect page, haha!

We are very excited to welcome Karine Cazenave-Tapie to the JBS Team!  A little more about Karine . . .

 

I'm Karine Cazenave-Tapie, 36 years old, mom to Maxence, a cute 9-year-old boy, who's already well-known among scrapbookers: he's been on almost every layout!

I have been scrapping for about 10 years. Addicted to Scrapbooking, I'm in love with colors, textures, stamps and paints, layout or mini album, depends on my mood. But what I like the most is meeting new people and sharing my love for Scrapbooking.

For the last 7 years, I've been teaching Scrapbook classes all over France and abroad. During a crop weekend, I met Céline Navarro. We became friends in a heartbeat. A few months later, we got started together on a brand new project not yet existing in France: a crop weekend where the two would be teaching classes and organizing the event. These events, called {entreARTistes}, have been travelling all over France for now 6 years.

I am an author of 6 books published by éditions Créapassions, available on Amazon, I've been a member of several Design Teams, like 4h37, Hambly, Tattered Angels, I lowe Scrap, Craft Origine, Pause Créative and a collaborator of {entreArtistes} magazine.

I have also also launched several paper lines for Sultane, called "Cocktail Paradise" and, more recently, "O délices d'Alice".

Outside of scrapbooking, I have lots of activities! I love travelling, love photography of course.. Cooking and practicing Salsa! I'm a real girl, I mean I love fashion, clothes, make-up, shoes, bags and everything! My favorite color is Green! I can't scrap without it!

 

A layout talking about Love with a capital L! This fantastic picture was taken by my friend Valerie from les Jolis Moments website.  I love the contrast on the layout, especially the different textures with embossing textures under the Jenni Bowlin Stencil paper.

A very vintage locker found in an old library ! I can store all my liitle bottles like embossing powder glitter and more! Love it!

My second passion is travel; this is a beautiful sunset I photographed on my last trip in Hawaii.

Digi Monday! And it's a GREAT one!

I used the cutting file and had fun creating this candle decoration:

I cut the Scary Cat from my cutting machine using the .dxf file.  Embellished with gemstone eyes, a ribbon and a Pearl Charm, this Halloween decoration is easy but oh so cute! 

It's so easy to adhere the die-cut to the candle by adhering a tack on the back.

This critter is made of paper, so as always, don't leave this burning unattended!
