Digital (and Hybrid) Ideas for Christmas from Chantalle!

Gift wrap is so easy to create and sure to impress. I simply printed off A4 sheets (at full bleed if your printer has that setting) of the prints available in the collection.

I have covered some kraft rolls from a DIY cracker kit in my printed paper. Stuff with some sweets and a joke and they will be a hit at your Christmas get together.

Custom gift wrap adds a special touch to presents.

I’ve teamed my wrapping with some JBS Rub-ons, some twine and ribbon as well as a Vintage Christmas tag and JBS feather tag.

A hybrid layout using the Autumn Crisp paper collection

The ‘Banner’ paper was printed onto textured cardstock and used as my base. I’ve printed the ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘Neutral leaves’ onto plain white card paper and fussy cut various leaves.

For the gold glitter leaf, I’ve used one of the cut leaves as a guide before hand cutting.

All my little elements were then arranged and machine stitched down into a banner.

Digital Haven Inspiration

One of my favorite Jenni Bowlin Studio paper lines is Haven and having it available in digital form is ... well ... heaven!

Chantalle McDaniel created an airy and artsy background for her layers of journaling cards, flatback, and rub-ons.  And take a look at that digital gold embossing using our Transferware Flowers kit?  How'd she do that?

Both artists used the butterfly images in the kit with other JBS digital butterfly images beautifully in their layouts.

Planning a Halloween Party? Check out Chantalle's Invite!

Chantalle McDaniel has sent us a beautiful Halloween Invitation and tutorial!  It is so very clever, as she creates a pocket to hold her invite and the invite flips over for all the party specifics.

Lets hear from Chantalle as she tells us just how she's made it:

'Too cute to spook’ invite

Halloween is one of my very favourite times of the year. We host an annual costume party at our place and have loads of fun! If you are thinking about making up some invites for your party, the JBS Vintage Halloween collection is perfect!

The pocket was created by printing off some ‘Starry Night’ paper onto plain card stock. It took a bit of time to work out the double sided printing, hehe!  I have tiled the star print at the bottom a bit, so I could have the pattern show when I folded it over.

The children and pumpkin have been fussy for interest. Machine stitch your pocket closed.

The title was half printed directly onto the design and half printed off onto card stock and cut out. This adds great dimension. Machine stitch on for even more definition.

The reverse is a journalling card, increased to a large size. For a seamless look, sample the cream colour of the card and give your background the same colour so you don’t get a white edge. 

The design of this card has been set in a word procession programme (I use InDesign)

For a final flourish, the cute kitty has been given a slick of Glossy Accents to make her pop on the paper.

Book Pages is a kit of book cover and book page images.  This kit is especially adaptable to hybrid scrapbooking too.

Carrie Arick had a wonderfully creative idea in her digital layout below.  She enlarged and colorized the dictionary page image (you can do that in digital!) and used it as her background.  This dictionary page came from a page containing the word "family" and similar words.  How appropriate for Carrie's layout of her son and his cousin.

‘Writer’s Block’

My DS is really into composing his own short stories at the moment. It makes me swell with pride to see him using his imagination to create worlds of his own! JBS ‘The Writer’s Collection' could not have been more perfect for documenting this memory.

I started (as I usually do with hybrid layouts) by setting my idea up on my Mac in a blank document. This one is quite simple in it’s design and was predominantly printed straight onto kraft card stock. I’ve never been a fan of my handwriting, so I type it up when I can. 

I am absolutely smitten with these Pen Nibs! Every element in this little kit is beautiful.

I cut some of the title out on my Silhouette Cameo (after I had already printed the first part of it out) It was quite tricky working out the spacing, but worth the bit of effort. I wanted to play on the word ‘block’, creating a kind of jump in the text, mirroring my son’s frustration with himself when he doesn’t get his words or ideas onto paper, quite perfectly. Hence, the ‘O’ is a bit distressed.

The pocket is a simple folded strip, machine stitched closed. Inside, is a photocopy of one of his stories.

Digital Sale and Inspiration

It’s One Buck Wednesday again over at SnapClickSupplyCo!  We have  two digital kits on sale today, and projects to inspire not only the digital scrapper, but the traditional and hybrid scrapper too!

Parade Day is a gorgeous paper collection designed by Lisa Dickinson and Definition Labels is a popular Jenni Bowlin Studio classic.

We also have some beautiful hybrid  projects using these kits  First up is a layout from Nirupama.

Niru printed and cut her background pieces and added them with other traditional scrapbooking pieces to a clean white piece of cardstock.   The way Niru layers her pieces and leaves edges of photos and paper unstuck creates such a carefree style.  And what a cool photo!

Next up is a tutorial from Chantalle McDaniel showing us how she used Parade Day and her process for creating a hybrid layout.   

The majority of my layouts involve the use of my computer at one stage or another. Whether it’s planning a photo size, designing a page or printing off digital elements, my Mac is a most valued scrapping partner!

Read on to see how I went about planning and putting this layout together, using Jenni Bowlin Studio  ‘Parade Day’ digital papers and ‘Definition Labels’.

• To begin, I set up a new document in a word processing programme (I use InDesign.) I have an A4 printer, so I have gone for an 8.5x11 layout. 

• Next, I think about what I want my page to look like, so I begin to set up the individual elements.

• I then place the elements onto separate pages so I can print them out individually, starting with the paper (printed onto white card stock at letter size, full bleed.) I then print my photo out onto photo paper. (I find this gives me the freedom to print exactly the size I want and also, save paper as I can adjust where it lies on the sheet.)

• Next I print off my other elements onto white cardstock.

Now I am ready to trim everything up and start putting my page together!

I have copied and pasted the ‘shine’ definition label inside a circular shape. The clear button has been in my stash for years (I have been hoarding it for just such an occasion!) It looks great amongst a mixture of embellies, like the JBS Wood Veneer button and silhouette style ‘Icon’ flatback.

The circles have been machine-stitched on in a zig zag pattern and their edges gently distressed. I have run a line of hand stitching along the paper tape too, for added hold and a bit of interest. (One could add more photos in the area underneath with additional journalling.)

Christmas in July

Our sale goods at Snap Click Supply Company today are a collection of digital Christmas goods.  Yes, it is officially Christmas in July.  Personally, I need to think cold thoughts here as our heat and humidity are hitting high levels today.

Chantalle McDaniel has created the most lovely Christmas flip book using some of our kits on display.  I'll let her describe it for you.

Festive Countdown Notes

During the festive season, my diary is jam-packed. So many little things to remember, the Postit notes start to pile up!

I have created this flip style note pad for when the days get busier.

Using the ‘Countdown Stars’ as a guide, I have created an additional number 25 and used my Epiphany round tool to create a charm.

The title was cut on my Silhouette Cameo. I have used ‘Season’s Greetings’ from the Vintage Christmas Words kit.

• Inside, there are 24 note pages. I created them by setting up 9 boxes across an A4 page in a word processing programme (I use Indesign). I have then filled each box with a different patterned paper from the 'Vintage Christmas’ and 'Vintage Christmas 2’ kits. Create another 2 pages and fill those boxes with patterned paper too. Some had to be repeated, but you can have fun with the sizes of the prints so they look different.

• Create a white overlay over the top so you can see your writing.

• Once you are happy with your set up, simply print and trim the cards up! Punch a few holes at the top and pop a couple of album rings in.

• You can keep the notebook as is, or you can create a simple stand by folding a strip of sturdy card into a triangular shape. Make sure to punch some holes at the top of the stand too, so your notes attach via the album rings.

The inside pages have been simply embellished with Advent Stars from the Vintage Christmas 2 Kit (printed at diameter of 25mm across and punched) and my favourite Gold Rubon Stars.
