Ghosts, Goblins, and Fright Oh My!

Hi!  Tina here today!

Halloween is my favorite holiday of the entire year.  I'm not sure what draws me to the season - perhaps it's the fall time weather, or the gorgeous colors in nature, or the fun ghostly characters of the holiday.  If I could decorate in Halloween decor the entire year, I surely would!

Today, I'd like to share a Halloween Home Decor project that was super fun to create, and will be cherished for years to come!

I filled each cubbie of my 7gypsies printer tray with all sorts of Jenni Bowlin goodies, vintage finds, and unique, one of a kind embellishments.

I aged Jenni Bowlin cards and stickers with alcohol ink and distressed the edges with Distress ink.

I even distressed several vintage die and metal clock hands.

I created these little 'potion' vials with cork, embossing powder, and glossy accents.  :)

So what is your favorite holiday?  We'd love to know!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great week!

October Kits: Papercrafting & Historian

The October kits here at Jenni Bowlin are wonderfully warm with gorgeous colors and patterns. It was a great way to lighten the last dreary day we had at our summer beach trip.

For this project, I mixed the papercrafting kit...

And the historian kit...

Both are definitely for October in colors and theme, but still so versatile they can be used on any page!

Here are some details.  I love the kraft speech bubbles.

Make sure to snag of these awesome kits before they are gone!

October Kits | Papercrafting + Antiquarian

The October kits at JBS Mercantile are spooky awesome -- just what I needed to create this layout about my daughter's tribute to Shaun of the Dead last Halloween.
I mixed items from two kits, the Papercrafting kit...
 and the Antiquarian kit.
I started by covering the background with the tickets from the Antiquarian kit.
I then added a receipt from the kit, stamped "ORIGINAL" (I absolutely love that!), placed my photo over it, and then tucked in papers and accents from both kits.
Lastly, I added the journaling, which also explains the title, a line that any Shaun of the Dead fan  would recognize immediately.
My daughter is already in search of this year's costume. I'm not sure that we're going to be able to top last year's!

October Kits | Papercrafting + Historian

The October kits are packed with everything you'd need for documenting your fall and Halloween, but they are also versatile enough to use for lots of other page themes as well! I've used the pie chart Kit Cut (free with purchase of the Papercrafting Kit) to make a layout about a typical day in the life of our dog, Shinerbock:

The bulk of the supplies on this page are from the Papercrafting Kit, but I've added in a label and die cut from the BasicGrey waterfall set in the Historian Add-On. These waterfall packs have a seemingly endless supply of die cuts, journaling cards, labels, and mini alphas (and everything coordinates perfectly!)

The pie chart was a great way to incorporate several of the fun patterned papers and bright cardstock in the kit. You could use this graph concept to illustrate your favorite things about autumn, the different types of Halloween candy your kids got trick-or-treating, or the variety of leaves that have fallen in your yard...the possibilities are endless!

 Happy October!

Welcome out October Guest, Michelle Houghton!

This month we are excited to welcome Michelle Houghton to the JBS Mercantile gallery!  Be sure to check out the rest of her beautiful work (with more coming on the 15th for our mid-month gallery updates!) along with the rest of the design team.  Don't forget to check out our kits, limited edition kits, flea market, and the huge sale on past kits.  Jenni has been busy with some great vintage finds and one-of-a-kind Jenni creations!

Michelle Houghton is a wife, mother and artist living in Iowa. Even before she began scrapbooking, she was a lifelong artist, majoring in Fine Arts at the University of Oregon and then teaching high school art for 7 years. Michelle has been scrapbooking for more than 15 years and she enjoys adding her own art, doodles and handmade elements to her pages for a one-of-a-kind look.Michelle teaches doodling, Copics, handlettering and more in her classes at Creative Passion and at workshops throughout the Midwest. She writes tutorials and is part of the Creative Team at Get It Scrapped! Most recently Michelle has begun working on the Special Projects team with Imagination International Inc., the US distributor of Copic products. You can find links to all of Michelle's classes and doings at her blog Scrapweaver.com.
I chose this Halloween layout as a current favorite because I love not only how the vellum frame turned out but the rub-on over the mini album page just looks cool. I do not use a lot of rub-ons and it always exciting when something new works so well!

I took this shot on the first day of school this year. It is an Instagram shot again and I took it for a photo a day challenge at Get It Scrapped, I have taken a lot of fun photos over the past two months and many have turned out well, but look at these two faces how could this not be a current favorite?!

This is a quick Instegram shot of my newly re-organized shelves in my scrap room. I have to say it always feels good to clear the shelves, re-organize the drawers and purge, purge, purge! I shifted all of my albums out into the family room where we can enjoy them more and opened up a lot of space to spread out my supplies and tools.
