GUEST DESIGNER
I am Sandy Ang from the sunny, little island of Singapore. My scrapping style, heavily influenced by graphic design, focuses primarily on line, shape and proportion. Being someone who scraps as a means of creative expression I enjoy trying something new with each project and having fun with products in an unexpected ways.

When I saw Kraft Bank Statement I knew I wanted to create a project about my Father and his ritual of reading the Finance Times cover to cover on Sunday. It turned out as a memory folder with his photo on the front and, on the inside, another photo, clippings from the paper and a series of layered pockets to hold journalling tags and other ephemera.    

Colour-wise I tend to gravitate towards rich, warm palettes and red has a special place in my heart which is why I couldn't resist mixing those stars and bingo numbers from the Christmas 2012 line into this project. Then with the rest of the Christmas 2012 Accessory Sheet I made this little seasonal greeting card.

Scrap Vintage - Memories

I must confess I find it hard to use vintage items and ephemera in my creating, not because I cant, it is more a case of not wanting to ruin some thing that is pretty amazing in its own right! So I could be accused of being a hoarder of all things vintage, and old! ....that includes all the wonderful items that Jenni finds and includes in the amazing Antiquarian Kits! 

So I have [grudgingly ....joke :)] used mostly vintage and found items from past Jenni Bowlin Studio Antiquarian kits, with the odd fabulous new release embellishment and quite possible you might spy an embellishment from an older range :) :) :)

For this particular layout I have used a vintage photo [credit The Whatevers] and used a fun mix of both vintage findings and old and new release embellishments. the black ground splash of green was made using the delicious paint Seed Packet.

Again I have used a vintage photo [credit The Whatevers], but kept it light and fresh with using the fabulous Die-cut Bank Statement paper as a background and a fresh color palette; the paint is the divine Chilli Powder.

This final layout is created using a contemporary photo and a play on words from the actual book page background. I thought it was a fabulous contrast with using the title 'A little field, I'd like to have a little field', with a photo representing me living in the 'concrete jungle'. The picture of a little cottage under a tree completes the contrast perfectly.

Sooooo as you can see I have well and truly overcome my fear of using wonderful vintage items and ephemera in my creativity, I do hope you have as much fun as I did! :)

Scrap Vintage : Mixing old & new

 

I joke with friends on instagram that #isaveoldthings. I can't go to a thrift or garage sale without picking up a few things that others might think are worthless. I have piles of things in the studio that i store in bins & boxes.  Interesting old wooden tools with painted handles. Broken vintage jewelry, especially if it has some bling. Interesting pieces of chippy wood from an old workshop. Christmas reflectors, mercury glass beads and old red dennison labels. Vintage metal sewing machine bobbins and wooden industrial thread spools. Bottles full of anagram letters and wooden bingo numbers. I can't help it.

It's one of the reasons why I adore the JBS line and the kits so much, especially the Antiquarian. There are always gorgeous vintage bits & pieces to use, From paper ephemera to cool buttons and beads, Jenni finds the most amazing things (just wait til you see November's, it's my fav yet!).

I love how incorporating these items into a piece, mixed with newer JBS designs, works so well. Adding a little metal, glitter and bling can add so much texture to something you're making. The vignette I made above uses a vintage album page from a past antiquarian kit (there's some similar ones in the shop) as the base as well as mix of vintage & new pieces from JBS that I had stored in a vintage cake tin on my studio table.

Scrap Vintage: Legacy

That which we consider vintage now was once considered new. It didn't always have a history, but now it does, and that is exactly why I love incorporating vintage items on my layouts. These treasures --  ticket stubs, jewelry, fabric, ribbons, ledger pages -- tell stories alongside my own stories, the past mingling with a present that is bound to become the past someday.  It seems only fitting, then, to create layouts featuring a mix of old and new. 

The watch in the photo has been passed down to the eldest male in my husband's family for generations.  Following the death of his uncle, my husband became the bearer of this legacy. When he holds this watch in his hands, he touches what the hands of his great-great-grandfather held. 

Just as this timepiece bridges generations, so do the items on this page serve as bridges across time.  

The JBS "Receipt" perforated paper serves as a base, since the repeated word "received" holds a special meaning, given the layout's topic. Under the die-cut numerals (which remind me not only of numbers on a clock but also of generations, moving forward) I placed a sheet of vintage ledger paper. 

Another strip of ledger paper runs beneath the photo and title, under which is a pocket (taken from a JBS Naked Chipboard Album) holding the journaling. 

The past is valuable, and the inclusion of vintage items on a layout affirms that.  

Scrap Vintage - She Gave Me

For this month's theme, I chose to journal a bit about my grandmother. At the time when I was growing up, I had NO idea how big of an impact she had on me. Not until I was older and she was gone did it finally occur to me. Oddly enough on my last visit to my parent's home, my mom brought up that something that I did reminded her of her own mother... being the oldest child in the family, I was the one who knew her the best, as she passed when I was just sixteen...

I know. I've scrapbooked this photo before. In fact, a lot. But as much as my grandmother meant to me, I don't have a lot of photos of her. So, any time I journal a bit, or tell a story about her, or talk about how much she meant to me, I pull out this picture of her. When she was young and beautiful - the way I always see her in my mind.

For this layout, I chose to journal a bit about what she passed on to me. She was a beautiful person on the inside - and out. And I'll always remember the inner strength that she passed on to me...

Digi Monday: Fall Bingo Cards

Hi everyone!  I’m SUPER excited to share today’s JBS Digital release with you all.

 

These Fall Bingo Cards are simply perfect for use on your digital scrapbooking pages or in your hybrid crafting as well.  In fact I have a fun little hybrid project to share with you today:

Fall Feast Place Cards

These simple but cute little cards are perfect for helping you arrange the seating for your Thanksgiving feast while adding a little handmade touch to your dinner table.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All you’ll need to make your own Fall Feast Place Cards are:

·         JBS Fall Halloween Bingo Cards

·         A 1” circle punch

·         Leftover or Handmade Fall Embellies

·         1.25 square photos or name cards

·         Mini Binder Clips

·         Foam Squares

First things first, you’ll want to print out an adequate number of Fall Bingo Cards and cut them out—I find that (6) fit perfectly when arranged in two rows of three across a landscape page.

Now follow these simple steps to turn your fall bingo cards into place cards for your next dinner party.

 

1.       Punch a 1” circle from the center of your mini bingo card.

2.       Clamp a mini binder clip to the bottom edge of your bingo card.

3.       Embellish the opening in your place card with leftover fall embellies like these leaves and acorns I’ve used.

4.       Print our 1.25” square photos or personalized name cards to cut out and layer behind the opening in your place card using foam squares in the corners of your photo or card.

Now these your place cards are ready to set at the head of each setting for your fall parties and Thanksgiving Day feast.
