Grandma's Snowflakes by Betsy Sammarco

These beaded snowflake ornaments are made with beads from my grandma's old costume jewelry. Grandma gave me her old jewelry years ago and much of it was broken. I took the strands apart to use the beads, caps, and clasps in various crafting projects. One Christmas, everyone in the family received one of these as a gift. Not only are the snowflakes pretty ornaments, knowing that they are a part of Grandma makes them even more special. Here are just a few I've made:

  3. Is there any chance you'd share directions? I have strands of faux pearls from my great-grandmother, grandmother, and great-aunts that would make beautiful ornaments like this.

  8. What nice comments everyone! Lynsey -- I'll definitely share directions -- these are super easy to make -- especially now that you can buy wire snowflake forms! DH soldered mine for me!

Just like snowflakes in nature, each one is unique. We were snowed in one New Year's Eve, and the boys and I made Grandma's snowflakes 'til midnight!
