washi layers, banners, and feathers

Happy Sunday all! checking in with some more ideas for using the brand new washi tapes that Jenni recently released! I decided that when I started this project I wanted to focus on how versatile washi is - and I think I accomplished my goal.

I started by layering this tape as an anchor or base for my design. And this one along the edges to give it a pop of color. I combined one more into the mix to create the washi banner pieces.

I used a number of the lovely Jenni Bowlin fiskars punches in different places throughout this layout, too.

My last use of the washi tape comes in the form of these feathers - I laid a bunch of the tapes down on a piece of cardstock and cut feathers using one of the exclusive silhouette cuts from a JBS Mercantile kit.

I hope I've given you a few ideas to spark your creativity this weekend!

Gangnam Style!

Hi!  Tina here today with a layout I created using the February Papercrafting kit, plus some tidbits from the Artisan Add On kit.

Have you ever made a layout knowing that your your kids or family member(s) would just kill you over the pictures in the layout?  This would DEFINITELY be one of those layouts.  :)

One day, last October, (in a very rare occurrence), my boys and I went for a walk and they 'allowed' me to take pictures of them.  Of course, many of the pictures were not serious and completely reflected their 'boy' charm.  In this sequence of photos, they were dancing 'Gangnam Style' and loving every minute of it!

I'm sure they had NO intention of these pictures showing up on a layout or in one of my projects, but I just couldn't resist.  :)  I was just waiting for the perfect paper and embellishments.  When I received the February kit, the yellows, browns, blues, and greens from the new Modern Mercantile collection were perfect for the fall time pictures.

I also loved the exclusive digital cut from this months kit!  I was a great way to add some subtle detail to the background, without 'over doing it'.

I hope they aren't too mad over the pictures!  :)

Please be sure and share your layouts in our Customer/Member Gallery.  We look forward to your creations!

love this now.

I recently decided to start keeping track of and posting a sort of currently loving/right now type of post to keep track of the fun stuff in life that starts popping up regularly. It's been fun to keep in mind as I snap photos, and look back through them.

The new Modern Mercantile line is perfect for scrapbooking everyday moments. And I'm loving the freshness of the green and blue.

The chipboard feathers were perfect with the speckled egg and stick candy paints, and just a touch of white brushing in the center... I was lucky enough to get this fabulous line in the February kits - which just happen to have been restocked! Snap them up while you can! It's lovely to work with. And don't forget to take a moment to document your current loves - those usually end up being some of my favorite pages to look back on!

Cards with Feather Tags & Printed Chipboard

Two of the most popular new items debuting at CHA last month were the Feather Tags and Printed Chipboard. Both are fabulous for scrapbookers and cardmakers alike! Today I'm sharing two card projects using these cute new products.

These softly-patterned feather tags add just a bit of dimension to any project and are perfect for layering. They will be available in the vintage patterns I've used on this card, as well as a printed kraft and red pattern.

And one of the most versatile new embellishments are the Printed Chipboard Bingo Numbers :
I can see them being used in Project Life to mark the date, in journaling lists, or as a sweet numerical notation on any page! The Printed Chipboard also comes in these tiny dominos and watch faces:

Our new products are shipping now, so look for them to arrive in your favorite scrapbook store very soon!

Seeing Stars

I love the versatility of background die cuts! They can add a subtle touch to the base of your layout, or they can be combined with patterned paper and embellishments to create a design focal point for your page.

I knew the star background from the Holiday Backdrops Kit Cuts would work perfectly with photos of my son's twelfth birthday. I enlarged it to 9.5 x 9.5 and cut it out of white cardstock, backing several of the stars with papers from the new Modern Mercantile line, as well as the bicycle mini paper from the Magpie collection.
My photos were adhered to the left side of the die cut and I backed the whole thing with the light blue patterned paper from the Modern Mercantile collection. For my title, I used the new Printer's Block Alpha rub-ons applied to one of the larger stars:

A piece of teal twill tape across the center of the die cut adds contract and leads the eye to my journaling tags, which I've slipped behind the die cut to keep the page design clean and uncluttered:

Because the die cut portion of my page has been adhered with foam squares, there is room to easily slide the journaling cards underneath them.

Finally, I added two of the domino chipboard pieces to the upper right corner of my die cut. The two "six" pieces were perfect to indicate my son's age:

Be sure to check out all of the background die cuts (and many other designs!) in the Kit Cuts section of the JBS Mercantile.

Happy Scrapping!
