An Amazing Apron!

We're back with another post in our popular Thursday Theme series on fabric! This one is by one of our amazing local talents, Terena Schultheis. Did you know our rub-ons work well on fabric? Yep! Here Terena applied them to a canvas apron. She then added a bit of Brown Sugar Dye Ink and sealed them on with Glossy Accents. Thanks for the inspiration Terena!

P.S. We'll be back with more of Mini-album Week in a bit . . .

Inspiration Journal by Kerry Lynn Yeary

Hi everyone, kL here!
It's my turn today to share a minibook for JBS + Write.Click.Scrapbook Mini-Album Week! And, after perusing my mini, and entering the giveaway in the previous post {here} don't forget to check in at WCS for double the inspiration as well as another giveaway!

As most of you know I adore using vintage books, especially old readers digest's because underneath those boring paper covers are almost always amazingly beautiful vintage patterns, like in the cover above. I'm also a huge fan of inspiration boards, but sometimes, rather than clear the one I have in the studio I like to make a mini version where I can journal, paint and add inspirational images instead. It gives me some time to play with new product or new techniques, without worrying about the outcome and the bonus is that I will have a beautiful journal at the end that I can use for future inspiration on layouts or altered projects.

For this inspiration journal cover I added of the new be our guest pattern paper and some vintage ledger paper to some large JBS chipboard flowers & then sanding the edges & sewing. then I layered them under a vintage tin butter dish with the 4"x4" schoolhouse paper {here} and the much loved pinked circle with some martha stewart micro-beads added to the top. add some extra embellies and a few charms and then attach to the book cover with a glue gun.

For the pages of my mini I removed the interior pages from the book and then made 6 piles of 10-12 pages that i then sewed together for 6 gathered pages. Then I added some linen fabric along the sides {for a little diy binding} and then add grommets and link together with the cover with some ball & chain {I re-purpose these from those chipboard sets we all have in our stash}.

The interior pages have alot of paint doodling using the new JBS for ranger dabbers and I also added alot of my favorite rub-ons from my stash, like transferware which is one of my all time favorites as well as pearl buttons and pearl flowers.

The goal here is to play and fill the pages, and eventually there will be inspirational quotes and pictures added as well.

some more paint doodling and a strip of one of my most favorite pieces of vintage barkcloth fabric.

The chipboard butterfly was also painted with the dabbers by using them as a wash {diluted heavily with water}. after it dried i applied more of the transfer-ware rub-ons and used a white sharpie paint pen inside the rubon flowers.

I'll be back in a few days to share more so you can see the inspiration pieces once added.
happy thursday!

Charmed Flower by Doris Sander

This month on the JBS Inspiration Blog we'll be bringing you fabric creations on Thursdays. Today's offering is these cute flowers. I'm sure they've been done a gazillion times before, but I think they sure look sweet with the addition of our new JBS Charms in the center. They are super easy and fun to make and are great for using up your scraps. In fact, the only thing new I used was the charms.

Like I said, I used leftover fabric bits. The teeniest tiniest bits in my stash. They were all about one inch wide by 4 to 10 inches long. I didn't have enough of any one print, so I pulled several pieces of the same color but different prints together. This turned out to make quite a cool look. So to get started, first you will need to cut pointy "teeth" along one side of all your strips . . .

Next you will run a simple basting stitch along the straight edge of your fabric. When you pull the fabric tight it will gather. I used some old cotton thread that I acquired from my mother. I think she used to make doillies with it . . .

When you have as much gathered length as you think you will need, tie it off. Leave a length of thread hanging though in case you decide that you need to add more fabric. Now start rolling the fabric onto itself and repeatedly stitching through the base to keep it together . . .

Once you're done, sew a few JBS Charms in the center! Sew Charming! (the double pun is killing me - hee!).

See! A pretty girl deserves a pretty pony tail to wear to her very first UT Lady Vols Basketball game!

P.S. These would also be lovely pinned to your favorite fabric purse!

The Thursday Theme this month is fabric and I'm blogging today with a quick and easy way to make a beautiful banner.

A friend gave me an upholstery fabric swatchbook from a store that closed a while ago:

Each swatch is already cut with a pinked edge and has two very convenient holes in the top that are just perfect for stringing ribbon through.  Add more ribbon scraps and some decorative type, and you'll have an easy, but very pretty banner.

This one was made in no time for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary!

On Thursdays we will be bringing you posts based on a monthly theme of our own choosing. Obviously something with a vintage fresh twist is in order. This month's theme is fabric. What fun! Today's post comes from the home of Jenni Bowlin. We are spotlighting her collection of feed sacks. Believe me, they are all the rage in these parts. I mean really, what could be more vintage fresh? :)

Layered casually over a very old wooden shipping crate . . .

Sewn into fluffy fun pillows . . .

A matching pair . . .

These are oh so soft and easy to make . . .

You might have to have to send the feed sack throne out to have professionally upholstered. I love this one the most; it has such presence. Who but Jenni Bowlin could elevate the humble feed sack to such a regal level?
